I have been married to Jim for almost 8 years. We live in Prosper, Texas. I have worked at a private Christian School for 30 years, the last 8 years working part-time. I have a grown adopted daughter, Kristina, who is a wonderful blessing. I have attended Lighthouse since Jim and I married. We are a part of a life group and Bible studies.
There are several scriptures in Psalms that have helped me over the years. Psalm 1:1-3 - "Blessed is the man Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful; But his delight is in the law of the Lord, And in His law he meditates day and night. He shall be like a tree Planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper." Another scripture is Psalm 119:1-19
I love the metaphor of a tree with deep roots that can withstand strong winds and not allow the circumstances to separate us from God, our strength and foundation. He is the only One who can provide the power and peace we need to survive life's trials. God alone is steadfast and constant. I want to have a faith that is unshakable in the face of trouble or attack. In order to have that faith, He shows me in His Word several things that draw me closer to Him. I need to seek Him daily, with my whole heart. I need to learn and know His statutes and meditate on them. I need to praise His name throughout the day, no matter what is happening in life. Learning the old hymns (having a song in my heart) that I sing silently to Him, reinforces putting scripture in my heart. When I do these things, I have contentment and peace, and I lose my self-focus. My roots grow deeper.
I look back over the years and see God’s faithfulness and His hand on my life. The times I had the most contentment and peace was when I totally depended on Him. No matter your circumstance He will be with you and He wants you to seek and trust Him.
Dear Heavenly Father, I thank you for Your word and ask for Your divine guidance. You know the desires of my heart, to know, love, and live in You. Guide me in the direction You want me to go and strengthen me by Your Word as I meditate on it. Help me to remember where my strength and peace come from. Thank You, Lord, for Your goodness and Your love.
(Psalm 119:10-12 - "With my whole heart I have sought You; Oh, let me not wander from Your commandments! Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You! Blessed are You, O Lord! Teach me Your statutes!")
