Hello! My name is Nora Hicks. I recently got engaged this past June to Hayden Hook. We have been together for the past four years and are so excited for what the Lord has in store! I am the oldest of the seven Hicks kids. My family and I moved from Northern Kentucky to the Prosper area five years ago and have been coming to the church since. I am currently a junior at Lee University in Cleveland, TN.

Psalms 139 talks of just how personal our God is and the unshakable identity we find in Him. Most of the time the society we live in demands perfection and we are surrounded by highlight reels. And, to be real, at times the need to be enough can feel overwhelming. Although, I love the beginning of this chapter because verse 1 says, “ O Lord, you have searched me and you know me” WOW. While reading this I have to take a minute and just let that sink in. GOD KNOWS ME. Not the “filtered” or best version of myself, but the real me. He knows our deepest thoughts, failures, desires, and fears. I am reminded that our identity is not found in the highlight reel or having it all together. Our identity is found in a God that will meet us with open arms in the midst of our brokenness and imperfection. This passage also says that we are the handiwork of God, knit together in our mother’s womb. I love this verse because it shows just how intimately involved God is in our lives, from before our first breath to the end. Because of the blood of Christ, there is no one too far gone. There is no longer a need to “measure up ” or “be good enough."  I encourage you to take refuge in the fact that, because of who we are in Christ, the transactional way of living is obsolete and relational living can occur with God.

Lord, we praise you for all of who you are! We thank you for the ways you are constantly revealing yourself to us! I pray that we will continue to seek you in all that we do. Confidently knowing who we are in you! Lord, I pray that we will not accept who the world says we are, but instead we will find our identity in you! God, you are different from all other religions because you are personal. You went so far as to send your Son to live and walk among us. Jesus, because of you, there is freedom. I pray that each and everyone of us will find humility, boldness, and freedom in your name. Amen.
